Reading and making sense of latitude & longitude values

Ultimately its the latitude & longitude values sent by Find Us to the client that will be used to locate the remote device. 

The latitude & longitude values can be put into satellite navigation programs like TOM TOM Navigator. The sat nav program
can then direct you to the latitude & longitude location.

The latitude & longitude values can also be put into online maps like Google Maps. The latitude & longitude values will be
translated into an actual location on the map (street address or postcode).

Different sat nav devices, sat nav applications & online maps require different latitude & longitude formats. Find Us provides
various latitude & longitude formats.

Putting latitude & longitude values into TOM TOM Navigator.

TOM TOM accepts latitude & longitude values in the degrees minutes format.

E.g.  Find Us DM format

Latitude = N 42° 13.4255'
(north 42 degrees 13.4255 minutes)

Longitude = W 3° 13.248'
(west 3 degrees 13.248 minutes)

- Start TOM TOM NAVIGATOR
- Go into the main menu
- Press navigate to
- Press the triangle symbol

Putting latitude & longitude values into Google Maps.

Google Maps accepts latitude & longitude values in the decimal degrees format.

E.g.  Find Us DD format

Latitude =   42.32565513°
Longitude =   -3.7756234°

Enter the readings above into the Google map search box. Place the latitude and the longitude values next to each other
'separated by a space' into the search box, then press SEARCH MAPS.

E.g.

42.32565513 -3.7756234

Above is an example of the latitude and longitude values separated by a space, and placed in Google Maps search box.

The degrees, minutes, seconds format (DMS).

The DMS format is the most popular way of expressing latitude & longitude. Sometimes the NORTH, SOUTH, EAST, WEST
(N,S,E,W) symbols are placed before the DMS value or after the DMS value. Or sometimes the ' + ' and ' - ' symbols are used
instead of (N,S,E,W).
